How to 'wipe clean' my netbook ready for donation - anyone?

We have two Acer Netbooks that we want to donate to the US Army soldiers. I am anxious to make sure there is no personal information left on them. Someone said I should take them back to factory new. Not sure how to do that but will it be enough to remove our personal info.
