I wasn't able to opt out. So first I tried Amazon chat. Got nowhere. Then I had them call me and the rep didn't know what I was talking about. He connected me with someone who said Amazon was having difficulty with that and he would email when the fix was in.

@geegerbee The exact same thing happened to me on Friday. I could not locate the Sidewalk app, tried chat. Finally had the tech rep call me and they had NO idea how to do this at all. Said they were having tech difficulties and would let me know when they figured it out. WHAT! So, I have it now and don't want it and can't opt out. Somehow, I do not think this is a mistake by their tech support. If we all opt out then what1

I love Amazon and have many of their devices but we opted out earlier today. Don't like Big Brother aspect of Sidewalk and with our already limited band width ( not nearly what we're paying for, can't get that resolved by Frontier ( only provider in our rural area) I can't / won't share even a smidge!

I don't use Alexa on my tablet so do I need to be concerned?

@bargainsgirl If you have one of the devices in the list, and you don't want Amazon taking any of your bandwidth to expand their network, you will need to use the Alexa app to opt out. Otherwise, if you don't mind the taking, there is nothing for you to be "concerned" about. HTH

I must have an 2018 model Echo as there is no listing for sidewalk to turn off. I guess I just need to get rid of my echo and either do without... or purchase a newer model that I can opt out of sidewalk.
I read that on the older models... you can not opt out... it is just turned on without it being listed....

@Marp How do I update my Alexa app? It is on my ipad
@SeaMaiden, go to the site where you get apps for the iPad and search for Alexa then download.
I don't know how updates work for Apple products but for my android phone when I searched for Alexa there was a button to use to update and the updated app was automatically installed.

I couldn't believe the arrogance of Amazon, when I heard this on the news the other night. They need to ask permission before "sharing" a customer's bandwith with anyone else. No way, I pay for what we have and it took a long time to get decent internet here.
I can't even believe they were allowed to do this.
I am a Prime member and I like the shopping I'm able to do with Amazon, but I'm also glad I've never owned any of the devices they control. With all the issues there have been over the years with Alexa listening to people, when they were unaware; recording their voices and feeding it back to the techs for "research" and to "improve" their service. A big no thank you.
