A friend gave me info on a local computer shop to call today. Was also suggested to replace battery and have this for my emergency tablet and purchase another tablet. I was concerned about learning how to use another product.

Yes, I would not attempt to replace the battery myself just putting out the price of the kit. Not sure of the value of putting money into fixing the Galaxy and then buying another new tablet.

We have the original iPad, my iPad 2, my daughters iPad 2 which I think she bought used from Apple none of which has had any issues at all. I am very pro iPad and iPhone.

Extremely easy to use.

See how much it is to get this repaired at the local shop then decide, that is what I would do, and how much you want to spend.

I agree with this. A few months ago I cracked the screen on my iPhone. I took it to a local cell phone repair place and they fixed the screen - they also offered a discount on a battery replacement while the phone was open. I declined because my battery was fine, but I know that this is one of many places will replace batteries on phones and tablets. local repairs usually costs less than sending it in to the manufacturer to be replaced and is much faster. The local shop repaired my phone in an hour and they had a pretty steady stream of customers coming in for similar repairs. I found my place online and checked review sites before making an appointment.

I hope that was AT&T.

Re: How to determine if I need to repair or purchase another tablet?

Called Apple yesterday, they did not have any refurbished IPads in stock. Research on line for the refurbished only carried a 30 or 90 day warranty or the square trade warranty which had many mixed reviews. I prefer to purchase with Apple for the product and warranty service . DH said I should get an IPad but not happy with the price. I do not like his computer and really want a tablet.

From Apple's website. Full one year warranty. Of course, they are not going to have any latest models "refurbished" already when they've only been around 4 months, http://store.apple.com/us/product/FF003/refurbished-ipad-air-wi-fi-cellular-for-att-32gb-space-gray

Southern Bee, I have the exact same tablet as you. About 1 1/2 years old, no problems yet. I think it is QVC that sells a LePan tablet for maybe $130 or so, and it has gotten pretty good reviews. Just a suggestion.

Southern Bee, were you offered Apple Care? It's never offered for free, but i thought you could buy it with a refurb.

My first Kindle Fire HD is almost 2 1/2 years old and is working fine.

I would not put $150 in repairs on a two year old tablet. I would shop for a new one and I'd get a different brand.

Mine will be 3 yo in April and still going strong!
