I use my phone a lot, but I don't often lose track of where it is.  If I'm out, it's in my purse.  If I'm home, it's in my pocket or sitting out in whatever room I'm in.  If I truly can't locate it, I dial it on hubby's phone and follow the ring.

I don't have Alexa or a similar device not because I'm technologically challenged, but because I choose not to have it in my home.  I find that my iPhone, iPad, and desktop Windows computer meet all of my needs. And they are used constantly throughout the day.

I try to keep it as low-tech as possible.

Most people don't realize that our conversations and other private matters can be accessed via Alexa and the computers in our cars.   No thank you!

Excuse me?!  What makes you think I post useless dribble all day?  I suppose what I post HERE is useless dribble because it's the only social media I engage in.  I guess you're posting useless dribble too.  I use my phone to conduct business, text and call family, shop, watch YT/Instagram if I'm not around my computer or one of three 10" Google Nest Hubs.  I use it in conjunction with cameras to check on our dogs or talk to them when we're gone.  I check the weather with it.  I check my email with it.  I'll use it for a map if needed.  Take photos and look at/add calendar events.  Check the best gas prices around me,change exterior lighting colors, record notes for myself and add to my grocery list.  Use it to id a song I hear while I'm out and would like to add to my playlist.  Probably more.  But one thing I don't do is post dribble (unless one would consider these forums "dribble").  Wow Smiley Surprised

You sound like you have discovered capabilities of a cell that no one else knows about or does. Most 3 year olds know all the capabilities of any cell phone.

wow!  Passive aggressive?  You obviously don't "know" @monicakm  or you wouldn't be so rude.  She's one of the nicest kindest people on the forum and most everybody likes her.  Okay maybe if you don't like makeup and skincare you might skip some of her posts.  Lol.  So just a suggestion to familiarize yourself with posters before you make rude comments.

I don't have Alexa and don't lose my phone BUT the only reason i  don't is i live in a tiny 600 sq ft apartment!  If I lived in a house or a larger apartment,  you better believe I'd need lots of help finding my phone, glasses, handbag, keys and most everything else!  Lol.  I'd really love to have an Alexa type gadget.  What fun!

[ Edited ]

I read some of these posts and just shake my head.  I can't remember the last time I read posts from a group of people bragging about their shunning and lack of technology.  This is a common theme on this board.  Well, I hope you never have an emergency with your phone in the car's glove compartment. Or never have an accident or medical emergency and your phone's battery is dead from being left in the car uncharged.  Braggiing about your lack of technical skills or shunning technology is just as bad as bragging about how much you use it.  A cell phone is a tool we use in our lives.  Nothing more, nothing less.  It can be a God sent when something goes wrong.  All I have left to say is, not me.

@monicakm Some of the comments here are so small minded!  Can't imagine using any energy to post such surly replies.  A reflection of a small mind IMO.

I use my Apple Watch to find my phone all the time.  I don't have Alexa but use smart plugs to turn stuff off and on.

Don't have Alexa, but I do know that my Apple watch can ping my iPhone.  Didn't hear it from me......

Re: How Many Times a Day Do You Have to Say

@monicakm I am screaming!!  That is just too funny! I try to be good about keeping up with my phone but some days...I carry mine at work and I turn the ringer off and have a flash light flash.  At least once a week I will be told hey lady your purse is flashing!!

You will love this...My ring tone is the original theme song to Monday night football!!  It has been that way forever!! I think of changing it but I know I wouldn't recognize the ring.

Also, I am rooting for your chiefs!!  Patrick and his cute self!!

I understand your point but you're not considering that we all use the "tools" in our lives that we decide actually have meaning.   Just because a new tech feature is available doesn't mean everyone has to drop everything and immediately start using it.  Some never will.

Example ... I'm sure many people here use an air fryer, but I never thought it was all that necessary, so I don't have one.  I hate clutter on my kitchen counters.  But, that's me and my preferences.

As for emergencies, back in the day when everyone had land lines and rotary phones, people still managed to cope with emergencies.  Really.

Personally, I think age matters a great deal.   When personal computers started becoming available, the Baby Boomers didn't have the advantage of starting to learn the basics as a toddler.  We learned what we had to learn to do what we wanted to do.  So we often "pick and choose" what we need to learn now.

I also think having teenagers handy is very helpful to some.  I don't have teens.

It's similar to not bothering to read a map to figure out how to get somewhere you have no interest in visiting.  It's just not necessary.

JMO, of course.
