How In The World Do You Find/Change Your Computer's Password?

My son wants to hook up to the Internet from his Mac laptop through my HP Pavilion desktop, but it tells him he needs my computer's password. I remember maybe setting it up when I first got my HP 6 years ago, but where in the world it is I have no idea. Is there any way I can reset it? Also, I have Comcast High-Speed Internet. Wouldn't I need a router anyway? I am also getting a Wi-Fi Kindle, so how would I get access to the Internet with that? Thanks for your help.
