Help this Novice TV Buyer by Answering a Couple Questions

My TV suddenly died and I've just begun to search for a new one. The technology has changed so much over the years and now it's way beyond my capabilities. Wink

Can someone answer a couple of simple questions for me?

What is the difference between an LED and an LCD television? Is there one that's preferable or does it really matter which one you buy?

Thank you so much! I went to BJ's the other day and there was no one around to ask. I left there more confused than when I walked in.
