Help removing McAfee antivirus software from my HP

[ Edited ]

Hello. I'm not using my laptop. I think the last time I used it was about a year ago and I spent all of the time I was using it updating Windows 10. I have a full program on it from McAfee that renews yearly if I don't stop it from renewing automatically. I'd like to stop using this antivirus software because  of incompatibility issues. I can only use it with Microsoft Explorer as my default and I'd rather switch over to Edge and just use Microsoft's own antivirus program (Is it still called Defender?). If you have done so, how do I remove the complete McAfee program? I have not looked at my Windows screen in so long that I'm sure I'll have no idea where to find anything in Windows anymore.

On McAfee's website there are instructions for how to remove their software. There is a video here.

Search:

ETA- About Windows Defender...whichever antivirus software is installed on your device, you can still have WD do a periodic check for threats. All you have to do is set it to 'ON' and it will periodically scan for threats.

As you know, you can't just uninstall McAfee.  McAfee has a removal tool that ensures you get all of its bits and pieces off your computer.  Look on their website or google it.

@Mindy D   You probably already know this but just in case, did you log into your McAfee account online and turn off the automatic renewal so they don’t charge you for another year?
