I got an email to pre-order the TS for tomorrow. It's a HP Pavillion 17.3 Touch LED, Intel Quad Core 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD Windows 10 Laptop with Sleeve Software and Life Time Support, for $699.95 and free shipping and handling. Now I'm not tech savvy and all this is over my head! I was hoping maybe someone knows if this is a good deal. Also I have an older computer which is i5, is Quad Core better? I'm ashamed to admit I don't really understand what 8 GB of Ram are and 1 TB either. I know someone can help me without making any judgments!

At this moment I am pretty sure I will be ordering the HSN laptop.  I doubt anything significantly better will be coming along before the end of the year.  Anything Q has that is comparably is more expensive.

The one question that is still keeping me from fully committing to getting this laptop is the processor/ram combination.  I don't know if I am better with a slightly slower processor and more RAM or a slightly faster processor with less RAM.  Hopefully someone will see this thread that can offer some guidance before it is too late.

If I am not mistaken an i5 processor is quad core.  8GB of RAM is the amount of memory the machine has to process instructions/run programs.  The 1TB is the amount of storage available on the hard drive but in actuality once Windows10 and the other programs are loaded there is less than 1TB available but that is unlikely to impact you in any way.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on the fence about getting this laptop. I had a HP laptop and liked it. I currently have a Toshiba and had trouble with it from day one. I also was wondering how to transfer some things from  my current laptop to a new one. Hopefully like you said someone can enlighten us!

The computer being sold at HSN is a fancy Intel i3 processor.

I like the HP Envy series of laptops.   I would look at an HP Window 8.1 computer to save money. The sales staff will help you find a computer.

I backup and transfer data to an external HD. http://www.amazon.com/Passport-Ultra-Portable-External-WDBGPU0010BBK-NESN/dp/B00W8XXRPM/ref=dp_ob_ti...

Amazon sells a carry case for a HD.

If you're in the market for a 17.3" computer, you could do worse, especially with Windows 10 already installed. I think I might well have bought it, but I'm downsizing with my next laptop. I have a 17.3" and want a 14-15.6". If this special was offered in both sizes I probably would get it.

As always, it depends on what you want to do with your computer. For everyday tasks this would be close to an i5 (I did an internet comparison of the two processors). But if you already have an i5 I don't see any advantage to this one except more RAM and larger HD - but the processor in the HP isn't better. And unless you do a huge amount of Pro photo and video work, you don't really need 8GB of RAM either, or the huge HD unless you want to store HIgh Def movies on your HD.

Looking at the HP TS I couldn't believe how huge it looks. My laptop I think, is 15" which is big enough for me. I don't know if I really want a 17" one.

If I had not bought the HP laptop I'm using now I'd have jumped this TSV. The laptop I have is nearly identical with the backlit keyboard, CD / DVD player, hard drive, etc, EXCEPT that mine is the I7 processor and WIN 8.1 which I hate.

I also paid about $200 more.

So I think the HSN offering is a pretty good value plus it comes in colors.

Sandra, your i7 is a much faster processor than the TSV. That's why yours was more money.

Hi moonchilde,

Oh yes, I do realize that. But I still think that for anyone seeking a new laptop that the HSN one is a good value. In fact, my friend just pulled the trigger and bought one and then proceeded to call me "a bad influence."  LOL!
