Another channel is offering an HP 10.1 tablet with keyboard.  I've had good luck with HP and I know my way around the Android OS.  What do you think?  $200 a decent value or no?

Hi birdmama!  I am quite possibly the last person who should be answering your post (don't feel compelled to give me one of those best answer big green check marks -- tee hee) because I am so not tech savvy.  But here is what I have to offer:

$200 is a very fair price for a 10" tablet and keyboard IF it meets your needs.  For ME, the most important aspect of any tablet or laptop is high screen resolution.  That way when I stream a movie or tv show, I am getting a very high quality picture.  My tablets have screen resolutions of 2560 X 1600.  I looked at the HP and the screen resolution is 1280 X 800. If that is not so important, I agree that HP is a known entity that produces a good product and you should feel comfortable purchasing.

But I am weird that way.  When purchasing a car the most important aspect is does it have leather seats?  It doesn't necessarily have to have a transmission, but I NEED leather seats.  LOL

I got it I thought it was a good deal, I don't need a Cadillac in a car or a tablet!

Here's the rationale for wanting a tablet.

I'm a dinosaur and love my desktop.  That's what I am using 99% of the time when I post here.

From birth, my youngest bird Presto has been stationed in the home office.  I didn't want to freak the older birds out with a baby bird.  She has a cage that stays open all day.  She pretty much only sleeps in the cage.  Because I don't cover any cages in this house, my birds are like outside birds in that their days are dictated by daylight.  As we move into the fall and lose light, my little girl Presto wants to go to bed earlier.  I kid you not, she flies into the room around 8 pm and lets me know she's tired.

I won't run the TV or computer once she's down for the night.  I'm not inclined to move her or the computer so that leaves me with my phone for puttering around on the internet and of course, posting here (lol).

I want something bigger than my phone, preferably with a keyboard.

I watched another presentation and now it's down to color.  Do I want the red or the blue?

Gogirlfriend, what color did you choose?

I was gonna go with the red and screen protector.  I then decided to check on screen protectors in the amazon (wink).  Then I put the screen protector back into the cart and changed the color to blue.  Honest to God, I think I just need to flip a coin.

Blue won - I am excited.  It will be a Christmas present to myself.

Merry Christmas and enjoy your new tablet, bird!  I think you will love using a tablet instead of a phone.  I haven't used a desktop in forever.  I am like your birdies--free range.  I want to be able to flop on the sofa while at the same time  being "plugged in" to the outside world (via internet).

Magic, my birds rule my world and I have no problem changing my day to accommodate them.  It will be nice to be able to be sitting on the sofa, hooked into my wifi and looking at a screen that doesn't give me eye strain.

I am typing this from my new tablet 😁.  I received it yesterday and have it charged up and nearly figured out.  I am getting used to the keyboard and didn't install the little bundle as I don't know the company.  I downloaded it but there were so many warnings about malicious software I chickened out and deleted the download 😈  I don't know if my emoties will post, I hope so.
