After reading her first paragraph about being electronically challenged, I was trying to do what, to me, would be the easiest to understand. I doubt that formatting and sharing documents would be a problem, could be. She will decide what she wants to try later. Thanks for all of your suggestions. They may all be better than mine!

Other computers that don't have word pad installed will not be able to open any documemts that OP may create and send as an attachment. Furthermore...why would I use word pad, when I PAID for word. Even if this is an out of the box computer, with word pre installed, OP paid more for the computer because word was pre installed. OP should get to use anything she paid for.All of your suggestions are allright. Why go online and download another program when WordPad is already on your computer.
All you have to do is OPEN WordPad! It is a smaller version of MS Word and will open MS Word documents.

You are so correct. She said that MS Word won't open. Can you tell her how to use it?

The first thing to try is to repair it. The second would be to reinstall it. The third is to contact Microsoft.

To all who responded, I thank you tremendously and apologize for not replying. I'm just so confused and fed up that I wish I never had a computer. I have other issues with this computer so I'm thinking that even though a new computer isn't in my budget at this time, I may have to purchase a new one. This is about 3 years old and was not a top of the line machine as I don't need the best of the best. I didn't pay a lot for it so I feel I got my money's worth from it. My biggest issue is getting my documents transferred from the now defunct MS Word to my new computer. I don't know if that can be done but I'll find out when I go to Best Buy to buy a new 'puter. Once again, thank you all so very much. docsgirl

You do not even need MS Office. Just open your docs using LibreOffice for Pete's sake. If you cannot understand how to repair Office using the link or instructions some people have provided for you here, or how to download and install something like LibreOffice, you do not need to spend more money on another computer or anymore Microsoft software. You first need to learn how to use and care for the fairly new computer that you already have....otherwise, you will end up in the same situation down the road with the newer computer, and have to buy yet another one (since that seems to be how you think you fix these problems). You will keep spending and wasting money needlessly. I don't mean to sound mean, but I really want you to help yourself, rather than wasting your money when you probably do not need to spend anything.I agree. It is simple to fix whatever the problem might be, but some don't find it simple to research for directions and learn. Not sure why some are so afraid of technology? I bet my next paycheck that if something else were broken around the house, not computer based, These same people would learn to fix it or find someone who can before they would spend money on replacing it. And...to your point, if they don't learn what went wrong with the computer in the first place, chances are the same thing will happen with the next one. Computers don't break on their own, it's the people using them that click on things or don't keep up maintenance that breaks them.
