I want to buy my oldest grandchild a computer for Christmas. He's a senior and currently uses the family computer, but with two younger sisters, it's sometimes a long wait. Plus he is going off to college next year, and a laptop is practically essential anymore.
I would like to take advantage of the extended return policy from QVC, so that I can surprise him on Christmas and still give him time to check it out. Unfortunately, I don't know which one would be the most reliable. I have read the reviews, but almost all of the positive reviews are the reviewers' only review, and are suspect.
I would like to spend $600-800, but could go a bit more for a reliable computer. The family has both a Wii (my gift to them last Christmas) and aPlaystation, so I don't really care about the gaming aspects. He needs one that will do research, write essays, is fast and easy to use, and as I said, reliable.
Any suggestions as to brand and model to consider (or brands to steer clear of!) would be greatly appreciated. I don't want Grandma's gift to be a lemon!
Thanks!
