HDMI conectors

I was having a problem with my TV reception so I called for a new cable box well the one they brought had a 5 plug thing on it and the reception was terrible and there was a loud hum as well as some lines in the pic. My TV is only about 5 months old so I called again and told them I wanted a box that had a HDMI hook up . Well they brought the new one and every thing is perfect. Now I know what people have been saying about the 5 prong thing( not sure what you call it). not being as good as the HDMI I am now a very happy camper
