Google Chrome flipping back to I E 10

I have Windows 7, IE10 and a lousy DSL service. Their tech recommended Google Chrome to deal with slowness issues. Even though its installed on this computer I never used it much because I like the favorites bar on IE. So I've been using Google Chrome all day, leaving my computer on while I go do some house work on and off. Each time I come back this thing has flipped to IE. What is going on and how do I stop it?
