Re: Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

The most common issue with charging points on iPads and iPhones is some dust or lint getting caught up into the port.  I had the problem with my cords not connecting correctly and learned about this issue after googling it.  There are a lot of ways to resolve it but I took one of my interdental brushes and used it to clear lint out of the port on my iPad.  Worked perfectly after that.  It might be the same issue

Re: Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

I recently bought this charging cord for my iPad mini after the second OEM cord I've had started cutting in and out.  I've had it for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier.  It is the Amazon brand BUT is Apple certified.  It is made thicker and better than the Apple cords imo.  Now...if it starts causing problems in a few months, I may have to eat crow...lol...but at least for now, I am satisfied with it.

@LTT1 I am a big believer in only using Apple accessories and not the knock off's.  There is a difference.  Smiley Happy

@SaveTheTurtles @Ainhisg

What I am becoming aware of is that the cheaper charging cords use a lighter metal for the part of the cord that plugs into the iPhone or iPad.

I'm guessing something went wrong in the supply chain (?) and the more durable metal historically used was no longer available? and so as I plug it into the device, it bends just enough to wreck the charge port on the device.

If a person buys a cord with the MFI certification, you should have no issues.  MFI stands for "made for iphone/ipad/ipod."  If a cord has the MFI certification, it has passed Apple's test for quality.  It is a certification FROM Apple.  Here is the exact explanation along with what the certification looks like.  It is what is on the cable I bought.

Re: Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

@Lilysmom1  Where did you purchase from?

It's also possible you trashed them by accident.

What’s in the Box

  • iPhone 15
  • USB-C Charge Cable

Re: Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

@Mz iMac I bought them from Costco.  I didn't trash them.  I have everything I received (all the packaging except for cellophane cover).  I bought two iPhone 15s.  No charging cord in either package.

@Lilysmom1  Ok.  You purchased from a 3rd party.  That makes a difference.
