Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

I am going to return all of my less expensive generic cables I have been using to charge my Apple devices.

I believe that these are damaging my charging ports! The "plug" part seems to be thinner and becomes bent or narrowed to the point that they are difficult to attach. Then, because they are bent, they re-set the port to the point that the port becomes damaged.

From now on...I'm only going to use Apple chargers and cords. Yes, these are 4 times more expensive.

But using a brand new (generation 9) iPad from Amazon and it is already acting very "finicky " about accepting the charge cord (only 1month old!)

I don't have Apple devices, only Samsung, but always use the cables that come with the device. I see too many instances of recalls in overheating issues and don't want to rely on the cheaper versions. Totally agree with you, @LTT1 , sometimes you don't want to go with cheaper.

Didn't your new iPad come with an Apple cord? Why not use that one?

If you're talking about cheap cords from stores like 5 Below or Big Lots I agree with you.

But there are decent brands of cords like Anker.

Re: Generic cables for iPad and iPhone

My house seems to be littered with both kinds of cables.  Family and friends need charging at times.  Other than the length of the charge due to W, never seen a difference.

Since your iPad is an older, used, third party purchase, I would question the port first.  Can you still return it?  Ports can be damaged.

The Apple products don't come with a charging cord anymore. You have to purchase them. I bought cheapies on Amazon. Ugh, mistake. My devices were getting hot! Nope, I went right on Apple.com, found the correct products and never had a problem. Apple will tell you that if you use generic charging equipment, it can hurt your Apple products....which are $$. Best to get the correct, factory products and keep your devices safe. They last longer.

@deeva

My new iPad yes it came with a charger and a cable. The cable is short.

The charger outlet accommodates only 1 device at a time. I use both iPad and iPhone in the same location so for $44 I ordered an Apple charging cube and an Apple cable to go with it. All the rest are going to be returned if new or trashed if older!

My apple products have all come with charging cords.
