Lol! @tedEbear

Boy, when it hits the fan it really is a mess!!!Woman LOL  No @ notifications either?!?  I know mine aren't working well, but I can at least manually type them in here.

Yes, IE11 is a browser (not the best one to use with Win 10, I'm reading), but it WILL work using both the Java and Flash you need for your games and membership.

You can check to see if Java and Flash are active in IE11 by clicking on the "wheel" in the upper righthand corner in Explorer.  Click on "Manage Add-ons"  They should both be listed under "Toolbars and Extensions"...See if they're enabled and click to Enable, if not.   If they don't appear, then you'd need to go to both Adobe site to download Flash and the Java.com site to download the correct Java version.  HTH's

It may just be that your Dell just doesn't like Windows 10.  My Acer sure spit it right back out!Woman Wink  There doesn't seem to be any defining reason for this, except that it does seem to be mostly Windows 7 configurations, from what I've seen.  Since you enjoy your game membership site and the games you are used to playing, I suggest that you just uninstall Windows 10 from the Start menu while you still can.  Then run a cleaner.  You should be back to normal after that.  "Rolling in the DEEP" is never a good thing! Re: Free Upgrade from Windows 8 to 10?

OK then.  Sounds like you have two choices, @tedEbear

Go out and buy a new computer that is compatible with Windows 10.

                                       OR

Switch back to Windows 7, (Install the GWX Control Panel Program so you don't have to worry about MS sneaking back up on you), and go on enjoying your computer with the programs, games, etc. that you have chosen.  Buy a new computer when your d----d good and ready!  MS is supporting Windows 7 until Jan/2020 so plenty of time. Woman Wink

My Acer is nearing 3 years here, and I don't consider it old, by any means.

Gotta get outta that DEEP stuff though.  Life's too short!Woman LOLHeart

The assumption of "fear" on your part is rather presumptuous.

If you had paid any attention to the myriad of postings on this subject you'd see that not everyone receives a "no issues" upgrade or the ability to upgrade our current configurations.

I'm glad you are enjoying Windows 10 without issue, but please don't make assumptions about the rest of us who haven't had the same experience.Woman Wink   There's  plenty of time for Windows 7 and 8 users to upgrade with new computers, if we choose to go that route.Woman Happy

Re: Free Upgrade from Windows 8 to 10?

@tedEbear, load Firefox the under tools click on the Add-ons choice.  Once that opens go to Plug-ins and look for Shockwave Flash and check the version number.  The latest is 22.0.0.192

If you aren't running the latest version of Shockwave Flash some sites won't work.

My Dell is also about 3 years old and I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 without a problem.  If your Dell came with Windows 8 or 8.1 installed it should be able to handle Windows 10.

Please explain more about "I was kicked out of a paid membership gamesite and can't get back,".  Does that mean you can't get into the site or you just can't play games?  If you don't mind sharing the name/address of the site I'll try to find a reason for your problems.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Re: Free Upgrade from Windows 8 to 10?

I did the upgrade when my HD crashed and I didn't like it but for   a bunch of reasons.  Too intrusive, couldn't do things that I wanted.  My  laptop isn't new so that has nothing to do with it.

I had the older version reinstalled the next day.  By the time I need a new laptop I will worry about it then

do a youtube search to find out how to turn off all the privacy default settings that let MS know everything you are doing.

Re: Free Upgrade from Windows 8 to 10?

FWIW

I think that over the years Windows has evolved in order to be easier for the user to use, but for some that like to tinker those abilities have be taken away,   Which is what I don't like.
