Free Kindle App Download from Amazon Question

I don't own a Kindle or a Smartphone, but when I went into Amazon to look at a Kindle book online, it said I could download a free app to my computer. I did and it came in my e-mail.

Is it safe to download that to the computer? It allows you to read some free books and have the same discount on Kindle books online.

Just wondering if it is safe and worth it.

Thanks.

It's safe. I have it on my computer. Works just fine.

It's safe... but I don't know how easy it is to read a book on the computer... it might be a little hard on the eyes.

Kindles are pretty cheap now ~ don't they run about $80? And they do have plenty of freebies.Smile So, you can justify the cost by the amount you'd save on books.

Re: Free Kindle App Download from Amazon Question

You can adjust the color of the background and font. I usually read ebooks using my kindle gadget, but when I need to use the app on my computer I always use the setting that makes the background a nice beigey color.

(Not sure if this applies to anyone except me, but it is really nice to be able to set the font size larger when my eyes get tired. A great feature of ebooks in general.)

Re: Free Kindle App Download from Amazon Question

i downloaded this on my computer with no problem a few years ago. I agree with the other poster that suggested looking into a kindle, as reading a book on a computer can be a strain on the eyes, as well as uncomfortable. I use an app on my Mac to read textbook type of books often, but that's because I am typing in notes from reading, or have other computer type things being used while reading. Reading for pleasure I much prefer a book or tablet, which are both small and light, and can better settle into wherever I am sitting and get comfortable.

I agree with ebooks and the ability to adjust font size. Can't do that with a physical book, lol. All ebooks on computers and tablets have the ability to adjust fonts.

Re: Free Kindle App Download from Amazon Question

Thanks everyone! I'm glad it works and I will test it. I will also look into a cheaper Kindle. When I get a new job (I got laid off) I hope to afford a good tablet.

I appreciate the replies!!

Your nickname is great, by the way. Perfect for someone getting a new job too.

You might want to check out Oysterbooks.com. They have a lot of excellent ebooks available for 10 dollars per month, all inclusive. And the whole first month trial is free. They have a web browser interface that works quite nicely.

And maybe you already know that if you are a member of your local library, you can get online access lots of ebooks and audiobooks as part of your membership. I've used all of the above very happily.
