For anyone who has an IMac computer - I have a Gemini problem in gmail - Help!!!

I have an IMac Computer and admittedly, I am not prolific, I guess you can say, when something doesn't go according to plan and things need remediating!

Anyway - here is my issue:  Probably about a month ago or so, when there was a larger update, I didn't really notice any significant changes.  This issue I am having may or may not have anything to do with this update, but it seems to me it came at about the same time.

Now, when I go into my gmail, and I go to open up a person message from someone, it open up but it is somehow managed by Gemini and also shortens the message!  It also makes it practically impossible to go back and get into gmail without getting out entirely and signing back in.  This does not happen on my Iphone -- thankfully!

I have googled how to get rid of Gemini in google e-mail on IMac and it gave me instructions about getting into the settings at the top of the right hand of gmail and I followed those, but it did not take Gemini away.

Anyone else have this issue?

I don't know what else to do!  Any help????

Thank you!!

@AngelPuppy1  What big update?   Please be specific.

From reading your posting, your issue is w/Gmail in their handling of Gemini.  Issue starting around some update is just a coincidence.  You need to contact Gmail HELP & post on their message board in the Gemini section.   You must be specific in detailing your issue(s).  I am sure you are not the only person w/this issue.

Make sure you supply your system info - Mac & your OS so that you will get the correct troubleshooting suggestions/solutions.

Also, research YouTube tutorial videos for  your issue.

Good Luck!

Make sure that you are trying to do this in your Google account, not in the Mail App on your Mac.  Meaning -- go to Google.com and log into your account from the internet.  Once in, look for your Gmail account and follow the instruction above.  Again -- you can fix this in your Google account (not in the Mac Mail App).  Good luck!

Once logged into your Google account (at Google.com), these are the steps to turn off Gemini:

  1. Log into your Gmail account.
  2. Click on Settings (the cog icon in the top-right bar).
  3. Press See all settings
  4. In the General tab, scroll down to Google Workplace smart features and click on the button.
  5. Turn off smart features in Google Workspace and click Save. This will block Gemini AI from Gmail, Chat, Meet and Drive. You can remove Gemini from Google Maps, Wallet, Google Assistant and the Gemini app, too.

@JanetsGirl thank you for supplying these instructions.  I have not had this issue with gmail on my Macbook YET, but I want to keep my gmail as it is.  I am all for Gemini in other areas--just not email.  So I fixed my settings and hope my gmail remains as it is.

I have tried this several times and it is not working.  I thank you for trying to help me.  I cannot figure out why I have this!

Do you need to click on apply or save after making the changes?  Sometimes when changing a setting, you need to confirm your choice.
