Yes, @chickenbutt , I received one as well when I originally installed the GWX app. (Didn't feel the need to share that
). I did quite a bit of research before using the app here and felt comfortable with this developer or I would never have ventured to share it here. Glad it's working out well for you.![]()

I agree that this app is super and the developer is right on top of things.
He admits, though, that since mid-April he has heard stories of this happening ( the GWX Control panel is reverting back to "allow updates" on its own.
He states in the blog that he is continuing to monitor this. I felt it necessary to let him know about mine.
I get the control panel all set; shut down and when I re-start, it has been altered!
My post may show up on the blog in a day or two.

Hey Loves! Oh wow, that's weird. I just checked mine on this computer and it still is set the way I set it. Will have to keep an eye on it. This computer has Win8.1, but I also have another 8.1 and a couple of Win7 computers.
I'm changing ISPs on Wednesday, so I'll have all four computers out to get htem on the new network. Will make sure to check this program, oh yeah and update it, while I'm there. ![]()

Good to know, @LTT1. I don't do a "hard" shutdown daily here, but have not experienced this when I do one.
I do not support this program though. I only posted the info so that others could take advantage of it. Glad you reported it to the developer and that he's on it. ![]()

I forgot to say a big, big THANK YOU to @Gokat for sticking with this discussion and presenting this app! I want updates truly be lost without it!
Thanks to you both for reading, comprehending, and sticking with this discussion! I am sure that working with this has helped to increase my "tekkie" ness!

Yes, it has been invaluable.
That MS decided to try and force this OS upgrade on everybody really is despicable.
I don't have a single thing against Win10, since I haven't used it yet, but I DO have good reason to not want to upgrade an existing computer to a new operating system because there is just too much potential for problems and incompatibilities with existing programs and softwares.
I would also reiterate that Windows is supporting Win7 and Win8.1 with security updates until 2020 and 2023, respectively. So, there is just no reason to HAVE to upgrade to Win10.

I don't know if you saw my post above (or on the other thread by Lioness), @LTT1 , but based on my own experience here after the Win 10 install (and previous downloads by MS), I'd suggest that you do a CC Cleaner (freebie) scan and then run the Register cleaner within the program, if you have time. I found that MS left behind lots of "goodies" and my computers were noticeably improved after doing so.

What a great idea, Gokat!
I also use CCleaner and love it. I make a point to do a cleaning (I also do the main cleaning and the reg cleaning) AT LEAST any time there have been updates, any time I've been in my bank account, and whenever I have paid bills.
I notice lots of bits of krap left over, after there have been updates.

I do know that in relation to the @lovestoteach problem, it seems to be related to Register checksums , @chickenbutt. MS makes changes to the Register when installling Win 10 (and some of the other related updates) so it only makes sense to go back and clean it up.
We all do our computer housekeeping in various ways, but CC Cleaner is one of my go-to's as well. I've been using computers since before MS "graced us" with Windows so I know the importance of regular, consistent, housekeeping, especially now. Cost of doing business dontchaknow.![]()

@Gokat and @chickenbutt I haven't been keeping up with the entire discussion here, but since you both mentioned CCleaner, I wanted to say that after Windows 10 installed, I received a message that CCleaner was removed from my pc because it can't be used with Windows 10.
