Okay, @chickenbutt...I suggest you go back to the GWX Control Panel site and reinstall using the Installer this time. The worst than can happen is it will install over whatever's on your computer now. You should then have the option for a desktop shortcut. I'll check back to make sure all's okay so please post back. ![]()

Bumping up for anyone who might be interested in a tried and true way to prevent MS from forcing the Windows 10 update. ![]()

Thanks Gokat!
I never get some new version of whatever when it comes out. Invariably, there are problems and they need time to work the bugs out.

I put this on both of my Win8.1 computers and both of my Win7 computers.
This is just me because clutter makes me a little crazy - but you still have a symbol in your 'Notification Area'. It's just a different one. That's if you have it on 'Monitor Mode'.
But I have to figure that if I'm going to use it, I might as well have it on 'Monitor Mode'. I've gotten used to having to see it there. It's similar to the other one in that, even if you put it on 'hide' it still sits there. But i just need to get over that. ![]()

I have learned so much by reading here in Electronic.

I installed it yesterday and am very relieved. No one should have to "fight" with their computer to prevent upgrade attacks, lol!
I'm embarrassed to ask this, but where do I find which version of Windows I have? I can find it immediately on my older laptop, but my new one seems to be keeping it a deep dark secret! Any suggestions? (she asked sheepishly)

I have Windows 7 here. Just go to your Start Menu, @Tinkrbl44... and type in "System Information" . That should do it.![]()
Glad to hear you're "free again!" !!![]()

I have Windows 7 on an HP desk top that I got at a great price when the lap tops started to get popular. I kept having the little Windows 10 icon in the lower right and I kept deleting it. While I was at Costco a few weeks ago my computer updated itself while I was gone. I decided I might as well deal with it. After approximately three weeks the start menu disappeared and so did my Windows 7 calendar with all my appointments etc on it. I took my tower to the Microsoft store and they could not have been nicer. They gave me the option of going back to Windows 7 or continuing on with 10. Once they got my start menu back I decided to continue with 10. I am going to an introduction to Windows 10 class at the Microsoft store tomorrow.
There are many things on Windows 10 that will not work for me because my hardware is so outdated but I figure I will be ahead of the game when I finally decide to update if I know my way around.

Gokat--Thought I'd ask you about using the GWX control panel here in the thread you started about it rather than in my posting about my recent bad experience with MS's updates (you communicated with me there). Just want to clarify--if I uninstall KB3035583 and then hide it when it pops up again, would I still need to install and use the GWX control panel? Thanks for your help.

There are other files related to the Win 10 update, @qualityshopper so using the GWX program would take care of them as well. Once it's installed, it blocks all the Win 10 updates (which MS continually attempts to download) from loading to your computer. HTH's![]()
