Email setup with Win 7 or 8

I'm considering a new laptop. Some are available with Win7....most now come with Win8. I'm using a desktop and Vista....no problems with either, but I hear that the email program on 7 & 8 is totally different and won't use the POP3 settings. How hard is it to set up an email account under the new OS?
