This is so stupid, I'm almost embarassed to post it, but I can't find the official Echo (Alexa) app.  When I got my Echo in the very first shipment they sent out, I got a remote control which came in very handy.  Puppy got it and it became a chew toy and inoperable.  I recently got a new one, which requires programing.

I spent over two hours last night looking for instruction.  On both the app store and the play store, the only apps that can be downloaded are some that are not official and give no info on the remote.  So I go to Amazon and it says it is not available for digital download and they're right, there's no option or way to download it.  I sent off a question to Amazon CS, which they're supposed to answer within 12 hours, and have gotten no response.   How do new buyers know what to do with their Echos since there is no app available?  I must be missing something but what?

Here's what's on Amazon about the app.  If you put it on as wishlist, as it suggests, you just get on a round robin back to this page.

You can download the app in the appropriate App Store according to which type of device you own, Apple, android, etc. perhaps this material will help.

Amazon Device Support › Alexa Support › Amazon Alexa App›
Download the Amazon Alexa App

With the free Alexa app, you can manage your alarms, music, shopping lists, and more.

Note: The Alexa app is only available for download from U.S. app stores.

Compatibility

The Alexa app is available on mobile devices with:

You can also go to https://alexa.amazon.com from Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer (10 or higher) on your Wi-Fi enabled computer.

Note: At this time, Alexa-to-Alexa calling and messaging is only available with the Alexa app on compatible iOS and Android phones. To learn more, go to About Alexa-to-Alexa Calling and Messaging.

I just spent 40 minutes with a nice young woman somewhere in Asia for Amazon support. .  She tried so hard to help but my devices were uncooperative.  Well try again tomorrow.   They can't find a record of any of the devices I've bought at Amazon.  Somehow (?) I've managed to accumulate multiple accounts.

The official app is the AMZN Mobile LLC app in the iPhone/iPad App Store. I downloaded and set up my echo and dots easily. Just search "Alexa app" in the App Store and choose the one by Amazon mobile above.

Or or use the link provided above by gizmogal.

The app has apparently been changed and the one pictured above is obsolete but the new one is awful.  I couldn't even get it to open tonight.  I did open it last night and there was no mention of programming a remote.

Okay. The Alexa app is available in the Google Play Store, Apple's store and also on Amazon. Once you have the app Google "Pair the Alexa voice remote" and it'll walk you through the process of pairing the remote with the Echo. It's pretty easy. You select settings, then select your device. If there's already a remote paired with it you'll want to select "Forget Remote" first since only one remote can work with the device at a time. Then simply select pair remote, press and hold the play/pause button on the remote for five long seconds and the two will be paired.

The Amazon CSR called me back today as we'd arranged.  We finally figured that I bough the Echo using an old AOL email address that I no longer used.  When I signed on to Amazon using this address, I was able to access all of the Alexa app, which I'd been unable to see previously.  From there it was a simple 30 second process, and everything was working as it should.

Thanks for your attempts to help me solve this problem.

@Kinski-QVC  You'd think as long as QVC sells the Echo, they'd permit a link to get it to work!  You can t use it without this link.
