The price ATT charges me for a basic landline just went up by $10 a month. I have a cellphone that I use for most of my calls. I just use the landline to screen nuisance calls. I also heard that ATT does not provide any repairs should the physical infrastructure fail. Did any of you experience a downside to dropping the landline?

@chessylady We haven't really had a landline in over 15 years and have no problem. We have a package deal with Spectrum that basically requires a landline. However, we have no phone plugged in so never use it. Occasionally we'll see on our smart TV that a spam call is coming through but since we have no phone we do not hear a ring.
Our cell phones are all we need. We use Verizon.

I dropped my landline a few months ago for the same reason. My family and friends only called/texted me on my cell. I didn't even know my home phone #.
The only issue I had, and still have, is that sometimes I do not put my phone down in the same spot. And of course I don't remember where I put it. When I had a landline, it's sole purpose was to help me find my cell.
So I have to be a bit more aware of that.
Other than that, no issues.

@cjm61. Isn't it terribly inconvenient not have phones in the rooms you're in most of the time? I'd never remember to carry a phone when I go to bed or to the kitchen. I refuse to have a phone attached to my fingertips.

I would still like to have a landline, but when I cut the cord with cable, I got rid of the landline because it was part of a bundle. I guess what I don't like is not having a phone in pretty much everyroom. On occassion I put the cell down and then can't remember where I left it. Other than that, I never have an issue with anything with the cell.

I always preferred to talk on the landline, but it became so expensive and more unreliable than my cell phone so I finally cancelled it. It took a while to get used to not having one since I'd always had a landline but I don't think about it now. I'm not one that lives by the cell phone and don't carry it with me everywhere.
Honestly, if I could have a reliable wired landline at a reasonable price I'd like to have one back.

haha @Kachina624 , no I don't have a problem. In all honesty, I hate being attached to my phone so have no problem missing calls or texts if I'm in another room. My kids know I don't always have my phone on me so they will text or call my husband if they really want to get in touch with me, which is VERY rare.
In addition, I really don't like talking on the phone and my family knows that. I rarely make calls or receive them. My entire family knows if they receive a phone call from me they answer immediately because they know it must be important.
So, I don't have my phone at my fingertips and have no problems if I miss a call. In all fairness, I can usually hear my phone ringing from anywhere in the house.

If you live alone make sure you keep your phone charged, don't break it or lose it otherwise you have to get in your car for help.
If you have neighbors you will be fine.
Shutting off your landline is letting go of a lifetime friend and memory. It is a tough decison.

I'm getting ready to drop my landline as well. My Spectrum bill just went up to $200/month and it's ridiculous ! I've always had a landline since a little girl so it's been a part of my life
but I have to get use to just having a cell phone and remember where I left it when home ! My daughter keeps saying Mom, get rid of your landline, she dropped her landline over a yr ago.
