I use mine for turning on/off lights.  What tasks does she do for you?

So many things!

1.  Turning lights on and off.  (This is a safety issue for me because I would be walking into a dark bedroom otherwise.)

2.  I ask her for the weather, travel time, etc

3.  Setting reminders and timers.

4.  I tell her to add things to my shopping list.  So much easier than stopping to write if I discover I'm running low on something while cooking.

5.  Games

6.  Music!

7.  Daily Stretch

8.  Recipes - She comes up with ideas and then sends the recipe if you want it.

9.  Thesaurus and dictionary

10.  Translation of languages

11.  I ask questions if I need to know something or if I'm just curious about it (like "How many sonatas did Chopin write?", which is a question I asked today.)

12.  Meditation

There's so much more.  Mine was a gift, and not something I ever thought I would want or use.  But I've had it for a couple of years now, and I use it several times every day.  It can be fun, but it also has a lot of really practical uses.  I find more of them all the time.

@NYC Susan  "10. Translation of languages"

I just discovered that skill this morning.  I live inbetween 2 non English speaking older seniors (80+).  I wanted to say "hello" to them in their language instead of just smiing & bowing my head.

Siri is on Apple products not Alexia.  I have Siri disconnected on my iMac because I use Speakable Items now called Dictation which works better than Siri.

How do I use Alexa app on iPad?
To get started using Alexa within the app, tap the Alexa icon at the bottom. Tap Allow to bring up the prompt to grant the Alexa app access to your iOS device's microphone and location data. The app will then give you some example commands. Tap Done to complete setup.Jul 3, 2018

How does this work since Alexa is Amazon and iPad is Apple??

Alexa is on your Kindle?  I have a kindle and don't see Alexa mentioned anywhere on it.   Mine is the latest paperwhite.   Where is it?

I have the Kindle Fire Tablet, now referred to as just Amazon Fire.

I do not believe the Paperwhite is designed to use Alexa.  It was designed with a special screen and battery life to be your portable library.

If I am incorrect, somebody on here will correct me!!!!

I do not understand how it works.  I copied and pasted the information from the Amazon website.  It says you can install Alexa and control your smart plugs and other devices with an Iphone and Ipad.

I use the Alexa "web browser" app on my computer (Mac) because I do not own any iOS (mobile) devices.

Not sure if the setup is the same.  Once you open up/signin the browser app, it's self explainatory w/on screen instructions.

I love this!  I'm sure they appreciate it. :-)

I ocasionally use Alexa on my Kindle Fire.  I'm not terribly interested in using techology just for the sake of using it.  I have used Alexa to order from Amazon.  I get recipes from Alexa, the weather.  Mostly I use Alexa for music.

I love it for the music.  Before I owned an Echo I used the free on Roku version of Pandora but couldn't listen to just what I wanted to. With just the free version of Alexa you can listen to about anything. We subscribed to the $4. monthly Amazon music.

I love the hands free timer when cooking or coloring my hair-- I do not have to touch anything.

love it for halving/enlarging recipes and anything for the mathmatics

Notification of Amazon items ordered.

Love to have her read my Kindle books to me when doing KP. It is free from Alexa. The voice is 'sing songy' compared to paying for the read ones --but I find it easy to follow.

Of course I find it humourous when DH and I get angry at her responses at time. But that is user fault . We need to ask correctly or add an app.

The commercial for the local news got her attention and programmed it for me--from the tv nearby. Kind of orwellian .Smiley Happy Sometimes out of the blue it just starts talking like a crazy relative , but at least you  could unplug Alexa !
