Do I Need a Router?

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop computer. It has a 15.6" screen. The memory is 4GB and the hard drive is 500GB. I am just going to use it to surf the net, check e-mails, and watch some you-tube vids.

Do I need a router so that I can do all of that from my home?

Oh, this is my 1st laptop.
