Dell or HP?

I've been Googling, perusing the customer reviews and still can't decide between getting a Dell or HP notebook. There are fans and foes on each side. The bottom line is-- which is better regarding processing, memory, customer service, longevity, etc.? I know enough about computers to get by, but just a few weeks ago, QVC was saying the Dell TSV was the absolute best notebook deal they've had all year. Now HP is offering a TSV and I'm hearing almost the same thing. The HP notebook is a bit different, but I'm not sure if I should take the plunge?
