Personally - when I need airtime (never) or my service date is up - I just go to HSN and buy a new phone. They essentially give you the phone for free when you do this.

I'm not a tree hugging environmentalist but, I hate reading this.  Phones use a lot of natural resources, have toxic materials and are often not recycled.  We really need to stop being such a throw away society.

?? Nothing was said about tossing old phones in the trash. Nothing was said to indicate old phones aren't being recycled in some way/donated. Why insinuate by the post that the writer probably doesn't pass it on properly ("often not recycled" and that you're "sorry to hear" she buys a new phone every year)?

New phones have newer, better technology. It will always be that way. Newer may not be better for you, but newer is better for most people. No one gets to set up a "new phone only every 5 years" rule.  If people A through E don't buy something, people F-J will still buy it. There will always be a market.

Where do you think the new phones come from?  A company uses natural resources to make the phone and metal is removed from the earth for the components.  For what?  Because a slight upgrade or it's cheaper than buying new minutes?  How many times have I posted about either recycling or donating a phone and people reply they don't?  They're afraid of identity theft or so they claim.  I it find it wasteful.  This entire county is wasteful with it's disposable mindset.  It's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.  Don't like it, I don't care.

Re: DUMPING TRACFONE...who, ME??

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic because websites SHOULD be working for those whose preferred method of shopping is online. That said, I simply purchase the card(s) when I'm at Walmart, Target, etc. At 5 bucks for 1000 texts, that's all I need--plus the wide range of service time cards I might need (the Walmart "Wireless Store" located around the store's perimeter often has a bigger selection of cards hanging on the wall than in the Electronics Dept.)These can also be purchased in the stores' website, though I don't do that.

Tracfone is still for me!

Re: DUMPING TRACFONE...who, ME?? just used the online chat

[ Edited ]

I just used online chat and in 5 minutes or so the problem was solved.

My previous Tracfone service would expire in 6/17.  I purchased a new phone in February and when I activated it, it gave me an expiration date of service as 2/18.  I'd transferred my number, minutes, text, data without any problem I did an online chat and within a few minutes my service was extended to 6/18 plus 2 extra months, just because.  So I'm now good until 8/18.
