I never see this mentioned, nor do I know if this is still even necessary.   Don't see any settings or whatever on my laptop that references de-fragging.

So .....  Is de-fragging still a thing?

yes, i do at least once a week, more if i am having computer issues.

i try to do disk cleanups daily also.

If your device has a SSD then NO you do not need to defrag. It doesn't do anything to improve performance.  Optical hard (HDD) drives do need occasional defragging.

If you have windows 10 or higher, You do not need to Defrag.   It is done automatically.

Apple computers have a disk utility which you can run.  It has an optioin called First Aid which will check the disk for problems.

Definitely.  I usually do it after paying bills or being in my checking accounts. 

But I was always told to be sure to do the clean-up first, then defrag.
