DELL Laptop AC Power Adaptor Wattage ERROR MSG

[ Edited ]

I need help with an error message I've been getting when I power on my Dell laptop. It's an older Inspiron and I should mention that the battery isn't any good anymore, however that hasn't mattered to me because I use it when sitting in my recliner in the evenings and therefore have it plugged in when in use.

I've attached a photo of the message. When I turn the power on, the message pops up most of the time but not all of the time. It takes a few tries hitting "Continue" (while moving the plugged in cord around) before it gets past the message and finishes booting up. Once it's going I don't have any issues even when using for 2+ hours straight.

My thought was that there is a short or problem with the power cord but that doesn't make sense when after getting past the message it works fine for over 2 hours of use.

I plan on getting a new Dell in the next 6-12 months but would like help with this issue to hold me until then. Any thoughts or tips are greatly appreciated!

You need to access the BIOS setup to disable the warning. Look for videos online to show you how.

  • 1. Access the BIOS:
    Restart your Dell laptop and press the F2 key (or F12 or Delete, depending on your model) repeatedly as the Dell logo appears on the screen to enter the BIOS setup.

  • 2. Navigate to POST Behavior:
    Use the arrow keys to navigate through the BIOS menu and find the "POST Behavior" option.

  • 3. Locate Adapter Warnings:
    Within the "POST Behavior" section, you'll find the "Adapter Warnings" setting.

  • 4. Disable the warning:
    Uncheck the "Enable Adapter Warnings" box to disable the warning message.

  • 5. Apply Changes and Exit:
    Apply the changes and exit the BIOS setup, usually by pressing F10 or another key, to save your settings and reboot.

@SilleeMeeThank you! So the error message doesn't mean anything catastrophic? Just follow the instructions to disable it and act as if nothing is wrong?

@LAllyR

You're welcome. Yes, just follow those steps and the warning should be gone. Good luck.
