Comcast sent us new HD set boxes

We have three that we rent. They are at least 10 years old. Comcast notified me that the boxes needed replacing. And they sent the new Boxes   to us UPS. The new set boxes are at least 1/3 the size of the old ones!  I guess ours were ancient.

 

Have any of you  received new set boxes?

Yes, we just received new boxes from Comcast also. Supposedly, they were supposed to have an improved picture quality, but my husband and I can't tell a difference. But, they are smaller, so that was a good thing, in my view.

@age-struck     As long as they work just as good I am OK. Were they hard to get connected? I know you have to go through a series of steps to get them connected.

Did they send you any instructions? Since you say the new ones are smaller, they may sit on top of the old bigger ones. The easiest way to change any electronic, especially those from a cable or satellite company. That is how I install many of my peripheral devices when changing any of my many that I have connected to our 2 systems.

If they stack? Take 1 cable out of the old box/read what it says on each box/make sure that cable goes into the same place as the old one. Follow that same procedure, 1 cable at a time, and you should be OK, as far as where the cables should be connected. Unless you have a Multiple devices like my systems(Dolby Sound/Receiver/2 Blu-ray players, there shouldn't be that many cables.

 

When I changed our boxes(called Hopper by Dish Network), there was many things I had to do to get each different Hopper Authorized. That was the most time consuming part of changing our box, the Hopper.

I have Cox.     I had trouble connecting the boxes, and they sent a tech out.

Same with me.   I had to have 2 put in and it would have been a mess for me to hook up since one TV is routed via a splitter connection.   The waived the fee for me cause I complained a lot.  We'll see what happens on my next bill.  The boxes get so hot.  I wonder if they put out a lot of electricity?

 

I hate that we have to pay xtra for them.  Them going digital isn't my fault.

 

My pictures on the older TV's are better.

@Frosted Cake     I picked up a couple extra channels.....plus a bunch of music channels (worthless.....who listens to music on TV?).........    Like you said........I didn't ASK for this.........it was forced on me for an extra charge..............because as of 6/30, I wouldn't be getting anything at all.   Seems like they are holding me prisoner.   I can't get "regular" TV where I live because of the terrain.

A few years ago when Charter became all digital here, we replaced the ancient boxes we had.  The best part, aside from the fact that the cable boxes are a lot smaller now, is that they stopped charging extra for HD and all you needed was to get some HDMI cables for the hookup, instead of those old a/v cables.

 

I already had HD service on my TVs that had Tivos, but it was nice to get the rest of the TVs on HD and not to have to be charged extra for it, like they used to do.   That was the only reason we never had HD service.  With the newer TVs, the picture was pretty good and I never felt the need to pay more.

What I like about the new Comcast boxes, they are smaller and have a much bigger hard drive for recording show.  Unlike some, I can't stand watching standard def TV channels or shows.  In fact, I don't.
