Cell phone died

DH's phone just went kablooey! The battery looks fine, but the screen looks like it has some moisture behind it. It was on his dresser and wasn't near any water, ever. It won't light up at all, even when plugged in on the charger. Anyone experience anything like this before? It wasn't too expensive, so no problem getting a new one. Just strange that it died after three years.
