Re: Careful when you give computers away

The computers that I have either sold or giving away what I did was take out the old hard drive and put in a new hard drive. It was not that expensive and that way I also knew that there was no information of mine floating around. If I didn't buy a new hard drive I would use a disk erasing software program that remove every remnant on every partition of the hard drive.

Anyone that does not know how to do this should either have someone do this that is familiar with how it is done or, to be perfectly safe should not dispose of their computer without having this done.

I don't use automatic renewal for anything at all, never, ever. For this very reason.

I didn't use it. I had no account with this company. I had bought the laptop with Trend Micro already loaded and it was supposed to be "lifetime" of the computer. Trend Micro had no idea who I was, as the sale was with QVC. They had a credit card number and they used it.

Actually it is QVC I should take to task on it, as they never disclosed that this was going to be on "automatic renewal," their sales pitch was, again, "lifetime" of the computer. I also should discuss with them how Trend Micro got my credit card number, as obviously it was given to them by QVC.
