Can I put a cell phone case on backwards?

This may be the stupidest question I have ever asked on here, but after trying to Google and find an answer to this and coming up with nothing, I'm asking here.

I have an old cell phone, a Samsung SGH-A177, and have never had a case for it. Didn't really have any need for one. I always keep my phone off when carrying it in my purse (I'm one of those who really only has a phone for emergencies), but quite often I find that it gets accidentally turned on as things in my purse bump it. I can find hard plastic cases for this model without any problem, but what I'm wondering about is whether these snap-on plastic cases can be put on backwards. I don't want the cutout places in front since I figure the power button will still get turned on. I'd like to have the back piece in front so the buttons are fully covered. Does anyone know if you can put these cases on that way and still be able to snap them together. Thanks.
