Can Any Mac users help me - printer "offline"

[ Edited ]

I am somewhat perplexed - I moved my computer (total disconnect).

After i I set it up again the printer reads "offline" although the jobs are in print cue! Ugh...days I've been trying to figure what could have happened. I thought maybe it was out of ink which then it won't work so I bought new cartridges. Nope not that!

Its a canon model.  I bought new USB printer cable & downloaded the updated software.  I go to "add+ " printer on system preferences & the error message reads "cannot find printer".

Oh, I deleted the printer as the office max sales rep said I needed to do this & re-download setup.  Ugh🙄

I am just wondering if it's a simple problem & I will call Apple tomorrow OR buy a new printer.  I could never get it to be wireless therefore I've used the cable vs wireless.  The printer is 2 years old hardly used just for minor printing jobs.

Any suggestions??? Thank you!!!!

I added a pic of what comes up when I hit "+" printer.

@homedecor1Is it possible you may need to re-enter the modem/router password again as though it was brand new?

@Kachina624

it never was wireless therefore not connected thru my router.  When our cable provider switched our modem & boxes to Spectrum I could not get it to "connect".

This happens to me sometimes. Update your printer drivers if not up to date. I generally power down Mac and printer, unplug and re plug in printer, power up computer, then printer. You have probably done this already.  I do use a wireless connection, though. So frustrating.

@jewel3

thank you!!! I think I've done 20 times.  I appreciate your suggestion BUT I guess it's probably something "simple" and before I buy new printer I'll call Apple!

Please let us know what they say. Last time this happened to me I walked away in frustration and my printed docs were there all printed the next morning. Go figure.

Have you tried a different USB port/connection?  I'd suggest you shutdown the computer, unplug the printer cable, restart the computer, plug in the printer, turn it on and try adding a printer.  If it doesn't work, and Apple support tells you to do this, you can tell them you did and it didn't work.

Is that printer set as the "default" in Settings?
