I guess if someone like you has over 11 thousand posts and counting you have plenty of time to google all day and night well good for you.. I stand corrected. I do not have the time and I do not have to explain myself to the likes of you a nameless, faceless person. Just so you know There has been several threads about this a few months ago , so a few months ago this was correct. And your no authority on this because, anyone could have gotten that link. Big deal! This link you posted can change as computer technology changes. I had enough of this discussion so I am ignoring you. SO, now you can post to yourself. I am doing myself a big favor. {#emotions_dlg.glare} I did read that Microsoft is not going to support windows 8 anymore or any software older then that.

That isn't true.

Yes, it is true....FYI.. If you have this older program you will have to download numerous updates.they will no longer update by themselves. That is why there is a deep clearance on windows 8 tablets and computers. So buyer beware. Microsoft is going to be unveiling there windows 10 computers and tablets in the very near future.

No, it's not. While Microsoft will discontinue supporting Windows 8 operating system, it's not going to be now. Microsoft just stopped supporting Windows XP April 8, 2014 and it was released in 2001. Here is a list of Windows operating system and their end of support dates.

Windows end of support dates

Whatever! I don't care this does not affect me. They extended it then it is fine for folks who want to continue to use the older programs. I have no problems with windows 8.1 and none with windows 8. In fact I am looking forward to the new technology. And it is coming in the very near future. Thanks for the link, have a good night.

Don't post incorrect information. It's too easy to find what is right doing a Google search.

Well excuse me....{#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I am also having this problem. Mine is old! I have been using Chrome a little. I spent hrs last night trying to figure how to switch back to my classic yahoo mail. (I forgot to mention, I am very much tech illiterate). Using the "new" yahoo email, there is no place to change the font size, or change to bold print. I thought I had it figured out, but when I changed the font, it was even worse than the standard that I am having to use.

I hate changes!!

I can't afford a new computer, is there anything else I can do???

You may want to try Firefox browser. It can run better than Chrome. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Have you cleaned your computer? It's temporary files. I use the free software.

Restore it back to the out of the box condition and start over. It will will make an old computer run like new.

Even though the original post here is older, I see that the posts in the thread are a bit misleading in answer to the OP question. OP asked about an outdated browser, but many posts spoke of updating windows XP, 7, etc. To be clear - a browser is a program you use to connect to the Internet and logon to websites (Internet Explorer, Chrome. Firefox, Safari, etc). The comouters operating system is windows (Vista, XP, 7, 8, 8.1 etc). A browser and an operating system are two completely different things.

Just want to point out that never, nowhere would there have been information that said windows 8 would stop being supported by Microsoft in the near future. It's one of their newer operating systems, Vista, XP, and 7 would stop being supported before 8. Yes, you are correct that a newer operating system is due out, which I think will be called windows 10. But this just means that Microsoft will no longer build out (or make new features) for operating systems prior. They will still support those operating system with updates for security impacts.,which means it will still be safe and usable.

Lynnj, I think that there is some confusion happening in this thread, when the OP was asked what was happening with her computer's browser.

Some of us asked her about the browser, as that was her initial question, and then she answered the question by mentioning what the operating system was for her computer, instead.
