Blue Screen

my computer is 5 years old and in less than 2 weeks I have gotten that blue screen with white writing that says something is very wrong and if it hasn't happened before to just shut down and restart which I did each time. I come back up but things are slower. Anyone know what is wrong or is it serious? I thought if a computer crashed it just went and that was it? thank you
