Blue Screen of Death

Anyone know of any other way to get into Safe Mode if tapping on F8 when you turn the computer on does not work? We live a day away so it's hard trying to help my sister on the phone being she knows nothing about computers. She has no recovery disk. Think she threw it away. I told her she was a numbnut & she says what's that??????? LOL!!!!!!!!!
