I can't see the screen to shut it off, the battery did finally die and I am charging it so that will in effect do the same thing. I am in the middle of trying to do a recover on itunes.

When an iPhone updates mine always goes black as it is resetting itself after an update.

If the charge runs down fast afterwards I would check your Bluetooth setting as it always on after an update and I shut mine off. I also check to see if any apps go on I don't use also.

When I set up a "new iPhone or iPad" it always has all the apps on! After I shut them off it was running normally. I also offload some apps on my iPhone and iPad as it keeps them on the phone and you just tap to download and open again.

My family is anti Apple ( used Apple at work for years until Government switched to Android) and we have used Samsung for years with no issues. I recently bought premium refurbished Galaxy S21 from Amazon for $300 ( added screen protector and Otter box cover). I love it and prefer it to Ultra S 23 DH has).

I did the recover on itunes, it didn't help at all.

I called apple, estimate of repair was 450.

I decided the SE was too small of a screen so I ordered a refurbished 12 for 599. My husband wanted to order it from apple so he did all the ordering, he has an apple card so it is 25 a month interest free or something like that. It has a one year warranty.

He might still try to fix my old phone for one of the granddaughers or something but not for 450.
