So Friday nght I downloaded the recent OS upgrade. A few hours later my screen went black and has stayed black since. The phone is on just a black screen.
My daughter said her screen went black for a bit and her friends but then turned on.
I always had a phone provided by my job until I recently retired, I didn't want a new phone so I adopted my daughters old phone when she got a new one. I don't want a thousand dollar phone, I drop it and don't want to have to feel like I have to be super careful.
I tried several things recommended on the internet but no luck, and I accidently called 911 in the process, luckly when they called back I remembered where to swipe to answer and tell them it was a false alarm and apologize.
Today I will try to chat with apple care. I really don't want to have to buy a new phone but it might not be preventable.

How frustrating. I updated mine and it went to the dark color setting (back ground black the print was all in white). I switched it back, thank heaven. But it is not holding a charge for long and I understand that is not a good sign, but like you I do not want to buy another ultra expensive phone.

Is it possible that Apple did this just so people would buy new phones? I woudn't put it past them to purposely create these problems to get more business. Maybe not, but I'm cynical when it comes to some things. Could be they're just incompetent.
I don't have an Apple products and will not buy one.

@teganslaw Sorry ut that's not true. All people need to do is shut off the phone and turn it back on. My phone is old and I had no problem

@spumoni99 I updated my iPhone XR10 add my IPad (2018. Version) too but did not have that problem. Sometimes depending on the age of the phone, you just have to shut it down, wait a minute then turn it back on,

I can't get it to shut down, have tried many things.

@spumoni99 Oh well then better call Apple. What model phone do you have. Apple is always helpful. I'm sure they can get you back up and. running. They usually have a way to override

I'm actually not sure which model it is since I can't look, I will ask my daughter before I call since its her old phone.I was spoiled for many years, any trouble with phone I would open a help ticket at work and they would get me a new phone....nobody to call now! Well except apple care.

I just found the box for the phone, according to that it is an iphone X and it is from 2017 so pretty old, maybe it couldn't handle the upgrade. A youtuber said on a video that apple may be able to remotely reset the phone so I will hope for that.
My husband always likes to have all of the most recent electronics so I told him if I need a new one he can get a new one and give me his old phone. His is probably 3 years old or so.

@spumoni99, does your phone have a home button on the bottom and a screen buttons on the right side?
My suggestion, with the phone plugged into a power source, is to simultaneously holding down both those buttons for approximately 30 seconds.
