@alohakz ....His phone is rarely used, so he has not needed to charge it since I posted last week...today I will  take a look at the settings.

@Ainhisg   I finally took the time to look at my husbands phone...his phone is a MOTO and the setting you mentioned was not on his phone and there was nothing even similar, but I did google the issue and as @SilleeMee mentioned it might be a connection issue.  It has not been charged since I posted but the battery is getting low so I will pay attention when he is charging it again, thank you for the advice.

Depending on the settings, a phone turned off can still use power and drain the battery over time.  I've heard of a phone setting where the charge only goes to 99% to help the battery.  Is he still having a noise problem?  If not, I wouldn't worry about it.  Just make sure he checks the phone occasionally since the battery could be dead despite not being used for calls.
