Backing up ipad before installing ios7

It's me again. I have updated my iPhone but not ipad. I'm reading that its best to backup to iCloud first. In my settings, under iCloud, my safari is on. When I turn on my iCloud backup setting, a box appears saying that my ipad will no longer backup to my computer automatically when I sync with iTunes. Now, I have no iTunes on my ipad, but I eventually want to get some on my iPhone only. When I install this new ios7 on my ipad, is just having safari "on" sufficient or should I go ahead with the iCloud backup first? I just don't understand the iCloud warning box.
