Talk about yesterday's technology today. Apple Watch is now on series 8. For a bit more you can get something that is current without all the unnecessary accessories. Buyer beware.

I hear what you're saying, but I thought the most current was the Ultra at about $800. I think the series 3 cost about $400.

The thing a purchaser needs to be aware of is whether their phone is compatible with the watch. I have an older phone what I'm perfectly happy with and don't intend to upgrade anytime soon. Because of that the newest watch my phone is compatible with is a series 6. So sometimes the newest isn't better for you.

The Ultra is for the hard core sports enthusiast. It's rough and tough and big. I bought the regular series 8 for $399.00 the day they came out. So if you buy the 3 you're  5 generations behind. I had a 6 and it was 2 years old so I would think a series 3 is maybe 5 years old already.

No one needs such a device. Ive owned a Peugeot watch Ive had for over 40 years. The need to have an electronic device strapped to ones wrist is asinine.

@Reever

Millions of people will disagree with you. Each person is allowed to spend his money however he sees fit.

I once felt as you do, but have plunked out my hard-earned dollars as a safety measure. I enjoy using my device and nobody is starving as a result of my purchase.

For many years I wore an inexpensive Timex watch but then the maintenance on it began to exceed its original cost.  I'm nearly 80 years old now and my lifestyle has changed greatly.

@Etoile308   I just checked Apple, and the Series 8 is $400.  They don't sell the Series 3 anymore.  I would never buy an outdated model.  I have the Series 7 and love it.  They weren't selling the Series 3 when I bought my watch almost a year ago.

@Reever   There are so many advantages to having an Apple watch.  I bought mine 11 months ago and am so happy with it.  I can check my heartbeat, blood oxygen level, take a 3 line EKG and many other things.

I set it to "sleep" when I go to bed, and it tells me how long I've slept, how long I was in deep, REM, and core sleep, and how long I was awake.  It's very helpful to me.

If I have a hard fall and the watch detects I'm not moving, they automatically call me, 9-1-1 and my emergency contact.  That gives me a sense of security.

It may not be something you would want, but for me, it was $400 very well spent.

Does your Peugeot watch detect when you may have fainted and does an emergency call to your designated contact?  My Apple Watch does.  I have had syncope, so it's a big relief to have it.

Who died and put you in charge?  I don't understand why women who are anti-technology spend time on the electronics board?

I have an Apple Watch and love it.

Here are some of the reasons why.

I don't need to carry my iPhone (I have a 6" phone) while I am out working around the property or going for a walk.  The watch gives me many of the iPhone features without having the phone with me.

I have a ring doorbell and my watch notifies me when someone is at the door.  This allows me to be anywhere on my large property instead of in the front yard if I am expecting a delivery or a visit from a friend.

it also holds 4g of music so when I walk I don't need a separate device to listen to music.

The 'Fall Detected" is more important to me as I age.

I use the workout app regularly.

I use the timer function all the time.  It allows me to set multiple timers when cooking.

I use it to listen to FM radio stations and podcasts.  I can quickly check email or texts without pulling out my phone.

I use it to find my other devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc).

To me it is a big convenience.  LM
