When i go to the app mine always says "update failed. Try again later." it's been this way for weeks. is it my phone or the system?

I don't have a tracfone, but when my phone starts acting up or I encounter repeated problems I always do a restart on my phone. If it fixes the problem, great, if it doesn't, it's still a good thing as it clears out the cache and such.

This is what I'm doing on my LG Sunset L33L.
Are you using the Tracfone App.? I heard it does not always work. You can check your balance by opening Google Chrome on your phone & search mobile.tracfone.com
You can check your balance there, add/buy airtime etc. After you click on check your balance click on enter your phone number & your number should pop up, click on it, click submit or go. While you have the mobile.tracfone.com page open on your phone click on the 3 little white dots next to the web addy, go down & click add to homescreen. From now on you click on the icon from your homescreen to go check your mins. I don't know why it's not available on the screen or under prepaid like the other Tracfones I have had.

The widget you are talking about is what I have been trying to use - it is not working. i went to tracfones website put in my phone # and they texted my balance to me. I tried to do it on my DH's phone and his didn't work either so it is their issue not my phone.

I just tried it when I posted a reply. It was working. DH checked his & it also worked. It has worked every time we checked ours. Maybe delete it & re-install it to see if it will work.
I could not figure out how to block a call so I had to download Mr. Number to block calls. I kept getting calls from a telemarketer yesterday.

Well, here is the deal. The app that you use to check balances uses your data time exclusely, so if you do not have mobile data turned on it will not work. When you turn it on the app will operate. It cost me 6mb of data time to check the balance! BS I say! I will check mine on their website instead. I always keep the mobile data turned off because data seems to miraculously disappear if left turned on with these tracfones. i thought if I was in a WiFi area then it would work on WiFi but nope. BTW I texted tracfone CS through FB to find this out.

Most smartphones give customers the option of connecting to Wi-Fi first and then data plan.
I can check MY usage on Verizon with Wi-Fi using an app. I can backup my contacts etc using Wi-Fi or mobile data. The setting in the phone allow me to choose how I want to access the cloud.

I have WiFi turned on, Mobile Data turned Off. I have checked my balance several times since I set it up. My Data amount left on my phone is the same as it was when I transferred my mins & set it up. It's using my WiFi. I'm not sure what's happening on your end.

I am only repeating what tracfone customer service told me and when I tried it,viola, it worked. I will take their word for it! Do whatever you please,however you please. I really don't care. I did what they instructed me to do.

Wow. I was only trying to help so it would not use your data. Is your WiFi turned on so it can use your WiFi when you are around it? I'm sure you can find more reliable info on message boards & searching online then you can get from Tracfone. You could talk to 2-3 different people at Tracfone & get different answers. When I have a problem I search Google for the answer & almost always find it. All I know is I can check my data with that widget & it does not use my data. Like I said my data is the same now as it was when I set the phone up.
