That I can't help you with as I never use the app. A quick Google says to try these things.

  • Check Fire TV settings:
    • Go to Settings > Network > About on your Fire TV to confirm your network connection.
      •

    • Navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Network and ensure "Allow external control" is enabled
      •

    • Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Device Name and check if your Fire TV is set to be discoverable.

Apparerntly, my brain was still in holiday mode as I forgot the 4K Max Fire Stick has the voice remote. The easy way to find whatever you're looking for is to press and hold the microphone and ask Alexa for whatever you want.

"Alexa, show me comedy movies."

"Alexa, show me a drama with Kirk Douglas."

Alexa, show me anything with Demi Moore in it."

Alexa is pretty clever these days and should find whatever you can search for on the app.

@gardenman I should use the microphone more.  The Fire Stick is a great device.  This Black Friday was a technology one for me.

Me too. I bought myself a Playstation 5 while they were on sale. My last Playstation was the original back around 28 years ago, so there's a learning curve with the new one. It's a lot of fun though. I was able to get the Playstation 5 with disc drive ($424), a spare controller ($54), and the game "Elden Ring" ($20) for less than the typical full price of the PS 5 alone ($499).

I typically play my Nintendo Switch, but there are no new Switch games I'm interested in and the new Switch successor is coming out sometime in 2025, so nothing major is coming out before that gets released. (Sometime after April?) There are about fifteen Playstation games I've been wanting to play (Elden Ring, Kena, both Horizon games, Stray, and more) so it made sense to get one while the getting is good. I was tempted to get a PS5 about three years ago, but they were just unavailable. Sony couldn't keep up with demand and the scalpers were buying any that hit the market and reselling them for $1,000 or more.

By waiting a bit I have a nice backlog of games to play and game prices have come down on the older titles. There's typically a big after-Christmas sale on videogames, as retailers look to get those with new consoles buying more games. There are a few full-price games I'd like to add, but I've spent enough for now. If they get marked down post-Christmas or for Easter I'll grab them then.

Between now and the release of the new Nintendo console my bank account will rebound and I'll be ready to invest in the new Nintendo console. The most absurdly optimistic projection is it might release in March, but later, maybe much later, seems more likely. It should be out by this time next year anyway.

Yeah. They're neat little devices. I have one on every TV. I'm glad you're happy with it. Rokus are nice also, but both of mine can overheat from time to time while my Fire sticks never do.
