You think you deleted it, but you can't because it is part of the windows operating system, so you didn't delete it in the way that you think you did. Trust me and follow my directions above. But I came back to tell you that when you reinstall it, it will install whatever version originally came with the computer. So if it was explorer 6,7,8, etc. that is what it will install to get to 9, or the latest version you will need to update internet explorer through windows updates. I highly recommend updating to the newest version immediately after install because it will include security patches that are critical when going online.

Since you have a Toshiba computer go to the Community Support forum http://forums.toshiba.com/

If you can not find a fix, you computer needs a repair shop.

That's not how it's done. There is no add/remove programs with Windows 7. You go to the control panel then select Programs and Features. See if this helps:

Check out this item on the Microsoft support site regarding internet explorer. It does state that

"Important Windows 7 no longer supports the ability to modify the registry to get the special Internet Explorer icon to appear on your desktop. This change was made to ensure Internet Explorer could be removed easily for compliance reasons."

However,scroll down and read it all. If you don't have any luck, you can contact Microsoft support and they will be able to help you. You should not have to purchase Windows 7. Here's the link:

As of Windows 7, one certainly can remove Internet Explorer for compliance reasons.

It's the second item on the page that starts with the word Important.

I would think that you would probably have to download the current version of Internet Explorer (11) on another computer on a thumb drive or DVD, then install. However, I would contact Microsoft Support before doing anything. They'll get you back to normal.

Wow, I didn't think I would see so much detail in your replies, and I especially appreciate that.

I will try everything that you imparted to me, and then let you all know when that browser-less laptop has Internet Explorer back, along with at least one IE desktop icon that I can click on to access the Interwebz.

And I would then, of course, re-install my Chrome and Firefox programs as well.

Do you have SP1 installed on your Windows 7 computer? If so, you would want to install, or update to IE 11. Otherwise, you can only go up to IE9. But IE 11 would be preferable, as would making sure to get the SP1 update installed on the computer. More security and all that.

Hey, Chicky - thanks for your input.

I just double-checked (Googled the how-to) that I have Service Pack 1 already installed on that Windows 7 Toshiba notebook, and I do. Yay(?)

I will note that Internet Explorer 11 is preferable to the IE9 that was originally installed. And if I end up having to friggin' buy a DVD, I hope that IE11 won't be more expensive. Although I'm always for more security and all that.
