I tried about 8;30 AM and everything I was interested in was sold out. Plus the waiting list was full....really. Was that the best they could do?

Me too. In fact I ended up cancelling the $6 Fairy Garden door that I did order. Not sure why.

I didn't even look. I saw on the news that customers were complaining about the selection. They thought amazon was cleaning out the warehouse with the low selling stuff. It was a success, so I bet they do it again next year.

I was moderately happy in that I got to order a Fire HD 7 with 16gb of memory for $99 ($106 after tax.) I ordered that at four in the morning and they had already sold something like 55% of the one's available. They have them on sale at/around that price fairly regularly, so it wasn't an amazing deal, but it was okay. I'm a little disappointed that I have to wait until August 6th or 7th to get it, but that's coming soon.
There are two big new competitors coming along to try and dethrone Amazon in Jet.com and Alibaba. If those three get in a price war to get customers, it could be a great thing for customers.
Jet.com is especially intriguing. They're a member only online shopping destination (like Costco, etc.) but everything you buy from them is at their cost. They claim they'll only make money off of the memberships. You can sign up now for a free six month membership. They say they'll have ten million products available with free shipping on any purchase over $35. It'll be very interesting to see how that works and how others adjust to it.
Alibaba is already huge overseas and is also planning a major US launch, so things could be looking up for US consumers.

Thanks for the heads up. You are right, it will be interesting.

We're a little over two days from Jet.com launching, so we won't really know how good their deals are until then, but selling things for wholesale, plus their costs with no profit could be pretty sweet. I'm not sure how many big names will risk their existing retail sales base to supply Jet.com, but if enough do, then they could jump past Amazon, or at least pressure them.

I would like to support US based companies but am having a problem finding out where Jet.com is based. It appears to be US but I am not sure. Does anyone know>
