Lynnj that's what I said too. We think alike. HSN has them for sale, free shipping between $79 to $100 most of the time. Just about everything is always on 'easy pay' or whatever they call it.
I've bought many of them from there. Then I give the printers away to friends and family. They'd rather not deal with shipping and stuff and don't mind getting the cartridges. You can probably get them cheaper (the ink cartridges) on line. I just don't like messing with it.

On 1/12/2015 Lynnj said: KittymomNC, I am not sure what to tell you. But, you spent $70 on ink, and frankly you can get a new printer with full cartridges for about that same amount. If you have the feeling that this one is on its way out, maybe be best to just return the ink, then put the money towards a new printer? On the other hand. If you think it will last as long as the cartridges you just bought, then you break even.
Thanks, Lynnj. I looked at printers before I bought the ink today. My computer and printer set up makes it difficult to get it out and unhook everything, then set up a new one. And I hate getting used to a new one, installing the printer driver (if that's still done on new ones), etc. I told the guy I was going to buy the cartridges but not open them unless I absolutely had to print something. If they're not opened I can return them. I didn't want to make a decision while I was at the store.. I wanted advice from people here and time to look at what Best Buy, etc. has to offer. We bought my son's last laptop from Best Buy and got a terrific deal on it, and also got their Geek Squad protection.
I see in your other post that you would choose a Canon - that seems to be the most prevalent brand recommended on this thread. I will definitely look at those. I really don't want to take the chance that I will install these cartridges and the printer will die -- it's been a really good one and has worked well for me, but now I'm thinking it may be getting ready to just quit. Thanks again.

The great thing about new wireless printers, you don't have a lot of wires. In fact, you can put the wireless printer anywhere within reach of your wireless network signal and it will print. I setup my Canon while it was sitting on a table in another room so I could see the LCD screen better.
You add the printer to your network first. After it's connected to your network, you install the software on your computer and when asked, you select network printer to complete the installation. You repeat the install process on every computer you have and you're done. The only wire you need is the power cord. BTW, you don't need a computer to be wireless for this to work. If you have a desktop connected to the wireless router using a Cat5/Ethernet cable, it will be able to use the wireless printer without being connected using a USB printer cable.

Update
Ended up buying a Brother All in 1 for about $99 at Staples, they also give you $2 for your used cartridges so we had 5 of them from the old printer, plus 1 from my husbands office so add'l discount.
Works well
Had issues setting up on my laptop but I ended up downloading the software and drivers from Brother directly.
Ink looks to be cheaper than HP too and it prints quicker.
Funny thing, town is collecting used electronics today so I put out the old printer at the end of the drive, yesterday it was gone within 30 minutes
Easier to add ink to this one, they are located at the front no need to lift the screen up, I like that

I agree with the poster who said it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new printer than to get ink refills! I have had 2 different HP printers and the refills are about $39 to $49, yet a brand new printer at WalMart is only $60. Go figure. But I have a printer graveyard in my storage room - at least 5 printer in there that will all probably still work if I get rich enough to buy the ink refills!!
I said all that to say that the Lexmark I had a few years back seemed to work best, and the ink lasted the longest.

I have an Epson which has been great. I bought my last ink cartridges off ebay from a very reputable electronic seller and they were about a third of what I had paid previously. They came with a warranty and actually contain more ink per cartridge than buying from Epson directly. It seems like they are lasting twice as long and the quality is excellent.

Very, very interesting. I need to replace a kodak printer.
I have a netbook, how will I add the new printer software since it doesn't take a cd drive?

When I used to use a netbook I just went online and downloaded the driver for the printer from the printers website...DW
