This may have been discussed before so apologize if I'm bringing up an old subject.  I'm thinking of getting an Amazon Fire 10HD and am wondering if it would be better for me to spend the extra and get an iPad.  Am I comparing apples to oranges?

I would mostly be using a tablet for getting my Comcast email, surfing the web, reading books and watching movies while travelling.  I understand that I can't get on Google with the Amazon Fire?  Is that true?  Would that then mean that I couldn't get to my gmail account?  I'm not real tech savvy so excuse all the questions.

Cost is also an issue for me so that alone may end up being the deciding factor for me but would like to know my options and would like your opinions anyway if you wouldn't mind.  Thank you!

I own the Kindle Fire HD, and use an iPad at work.  I personally prefer the Kindle.Fire for use at home. I can easily search using Google, and have 2 separate gmail accounts that I check several times a day.  I get inexpensive e-books easily through Book Bub and Amazon. Cost wise, the Fire is much less expensive. I love it.

I have  the Fire HDX. I have used the iPad at work.I love my Fire and prefer it.  I always use GOOGLE as my search engine..Occasionally it freezes but I just restart my tablet and it is fine. I watch movies, check email, post here, etc. It was great for travelling in Europe. I rarely use my laptop. Amazon customer service is fantastic. The MAYDAY feature is so easy....immediate help every time. My friends use iPods mostly but they like my Fire too.

I think yo can easily go to google.com on your Fire. Considering the uses you have described, the Fire sounds great for you.

If you had said you wanted to edit videos you have made or track your health connected to your Apple Watch, or FaceTime with other iPhone users, or integrate your tablet with your iPhone, I would say get an iPad. But you did not do so.

Enjoy your new Fire!

I have a Fire, IPad and Mini IPad.  I used the Fire to read for awhile, thought the IPad was too big for some things, too small for others, and didn't really love it.  I have a mini and I use it all the time now.  I almost read or listen to books on it, quick check mail, watch the weather.  It is so easy to grab and does everything.  Also purse sized!

You can't top the iPad for quality, reliability, service, and integration with iPhone, etc. I use the iPad mini all day long for everything from email, taking pix and sharing them, eBay, and reading to watching tv, history documentaries and more.

P.s. And I am always looking up things on the Internet on the iPad, which is very fast.

I have the Fire 7 and the larger Fire 8.9 HDX.  I use them both almost every day but mostly to check the news from diff. sites before I turn off the reading lamp to fall asleep.

I also use my laptop every day.

The 8.9 is not comfortable for me to hold in my left hand which is how I want to use my tablets and e-reader.   I LOVE my Kindle Keyboard e-reader and hold it for hours when I am reading at night.

Several times I have had to call Amazon in the middle of the night when I was having a small problem downloading a book.  There was always someone on the other end who answered the phone and walked me through to a solution.

I would stick with Amazon.

Apple makes not just a good tablet, but the great device. I brought my Apple tablet direct from the company. Apple sells a certified refurbished iPad Air 2 64 GB tablet for a great price. This product has the same warranty as new.
