Amazon Fire Tablet, why I hate it.

Amazon makes it clear, you may have paid for it, but it will always be their tablet.

Yesterday I made the foolish mistake of leaving my Amazon Fire Tablet connected to WiFi when I was called away. I found something called "Show Me" was loaded in my absence.

Just another unwanted, memory gobbling feature I have to Force Stop.

I've disabled Alexa 5 times. I do not want to be her friend. She turns herself on at will.

I had to Force Stop Alexa too, and she doesn't like it.

She's been sending me nonsense notifications to check apps that are likewise, not activated or in use. Today she was on again after I Forced Stop yesterday.

Amazon takes it upon themselves to select movies and tv shows for me, and loads them onto my tablet without permission.

Who makes and sells a tablet, then after you link up your email and such, it surreptitiously loads apps, games, books, newspapers, movies etc onto it without being asked to?!

Everytime I pick up the tablet something's different. It's like having someone else use it when you're not looking.

- AND, worst keyboard ever!!!!!!!

Good to know.  I had to disable a few things Apple related between me and DH - iPhone to iMac to iPhone.  The sharing malarkey is, well, malarkey.  I think the only reason I could do what I did is that the iMac is 2011.  It doesn't "think" like the new ones.

@Sweetbay magnolia. So what are you getting between your phones. I haven't noticed anything but maybe I don't know what to look for. Don't have a Mac but each of us have an iPhone.

When you purchase or join something (i.e FB) that is connected to something that's connected to something that's connected to something and so on and so forth, you've already lost control.

@x Hedge.  You didn't mention the biggest irritant; when I bought mine several years ago, you had the pay EXTRA for one if you didn't want a constant barrage of advertising.

I've exclusively been using a kindle for years.  I don't have those issues.  Alexa is turned off and doesn't turn on.  I don't have newspapers or movies added.

@proudlyfromNJ, we started getting each other's voicemail and texts, and call records.  Photos in the cloud are shared between devices.  He's been getting my texts via computer when my phone is "home".

It all goes back to iTunes accounts.

I have nothing to hide, but some things I like to be separate.  I can work a little more and continue to patch the issue, but I have other things I'd rather be doing.  I've always said, I don't have to know how to replace the brakes in my car to drive it - why so necessary to understand the OS of the computer?  Some of it's pretty esoteric to those of us who remember DOS (hated that, too, though.  People running around with IBM punch cards on the college campus).

I was lucky to be able to get the 2011 iMac to High Sierra.  I had lapsed on updates for that one and it was a near psychedelic experience to scrub the machine and plug in special codes to bring it up to "code".

Sent from my MacBook Air (which has basically been replaced by the MacBook and the Pro).

This is still true.

You can turn off all this ******, I had my "IT guy" do it on my Mom's friend's tablet. She did not know there was an option when buying.

Re: Amazon Fire Tablet, why I hate it.

Glad I got rid of my fire tablets, I still have my white alexa dot that gives me the weather and the traffic which I need in the mornings before I leave for work, I do not own any tablets at all now. I have a phone and a CB that I love.
