I bought the new Echo while it was reduced in price over Black Friday. I already had a Dot so wanted to try one of the others. I really like the Echo a lot better. Speaker on it is so much better then the Dot. I was tempted to order another one since they were still on sale yesterday afternoon. Last night when I got online Amazon had already marked them back up. Now DH is trying to steal my Echo. LOL!!! I told him it's mine to keep his paws off of it.

@Nightowlz I've had an Echo since they first shipped then. A couple of months ago I got a Dot but was appalled at the poor tone quality. I had a small Bose speaker I got on clearance at HSN. I paired it with the Dot and now it's as good or better than the Echo. You can do the same with any Bluetooth speaker.

I have to ask...what is the difference between an Echo and a Dot? Don't they do the same thing?

Silleemee, They are the same but the Echo has much better speakers. I have a dot in the bedroom and it is fine for that. It is not for listening to music unless you have another speaker hooked up to it. It is fine for production, news, weather, time, etc.

@SilleeMee. The Dot is very small, thus does not have the space for a larger speaker so the sound isn't good. They do the same thing.

@SilleeMee, they are the same except for the speaker(s). The Dot has a single monaural speaker, nor large room-filling, while the Echo was created with music in mind.
The Echo is great if you have no other good speakers to play music through. But the Dot will connect via Bluetooth to any BT speaker. I have a great JBL BT speaker I’ve paired with my Dot in the bedroom and have fabulous sound close to Bose.
If listening to music for hours is part of why you want the device and you don’t already have a quality BT speaker or sound system, go for the Echo.
If music isn’t that important in your uses or you already have a good BT speaker, you’ll save $50 with the Dot vs the Echo.

The Dot also has a jack that lets you plug it into your home stereo system if your home stereo system doesn't have a Bluetooth connection. That's how I use mine.

Yes I bought the Echo just so we would have one in the living room since I use the Dot in the bedroom to control the AC or Heat.
I have been using it to listen to music even though we have a stereo hooked up to our TV & another system in the exercise room. It's easier to just tell Alexa to play a song. LOL!!!
I hardly ever turn on the TV until after DH comes homes. I like the peace & quiet.
I'm listening to Brian Setzer xmas music.

Oh that's good to know. My home theater is not BT so this is good news for me. Thanks @gardenman. I just bought a new powered sub to enhance my system. So I'm not looking for a little speaker but the Dot will be a great BT accessory.
